Located at the lower level of the Millbrook Mall at 2 Herald Avenue in Corner Brook, the Humber Community YMCA provides a wide range of community based programs.

YMCA programs are proven to have a positive impact on children, youth and families, dramatically enhancing their health and overall well-being, both today and well into the future.

Well, we are literally off and running with the Couch to 5K program again this year. And what a great group we have again this year. 38 people are registered and we are in our 3 week and still we are having a turn out in the 30's every week. All 38 are still participating.
Each week we start with a 5 minute warm up walk and then we start our running. As stated we are in our third week, so we are alternating our running and walking from 1.5 minutes to 3 minutes. Everyone is doing so well. So far, we have run Griffin Drive and around the Marsh area of the Corner Brook trail.
We have also had representatives from Veitch Physiotherapy and Massage in to give us some wonderful advice about style of running, warming up and cooling down exercises, and stretches. They have been very helpful and we would like to thank them for taking the time to help us out. It is greatly appreciated.
Tip for Beginner Runners: Take the talk test - Remember, you want to start out easy. If you're alone recite some words to a song that you know. If you're finding it a struggle to get the words out, then you're running too hard. If you're running with someone you should be able to keep the conversation going.

We have completed another Tipping The Scales program and it was great success. We had 32 participants begin the program and 22 completed, which is a great turnout.
Our third place winner was Della Wight.
Our second place winner was Joanne Walsh.
and our First place winner was Chantell O'Quinn.
Congratulations to all our participants. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to lose a total of 178 pounds and 109.5 inches, but the results are amazing. Everyone comments on how well they feel, how much more energy they have, how much better their clothes fit (and the fact they have to buy new clothes!) and overall how great it has been to achieve their goals.
Another TTS will be going ahead again in the fall, so keep watch on our website for details later this summer.
Also, our Couch to 5 K program is starting on May 6th, so if you want to keep this fitness lifestyle going, come along and join us: $90 for non-members and $20 for members.
